چکیده

We report on optical observations of the low-mass binary millisecond pulsar systems J0034{0534 and J2145{0750. A faint (I=23.5) object was found to be coincident with the timing position of PSR J2145{0750. While a galaxy or distant main-sequence star cannot be ruled out, its magnitude is consistent with an ancient white dwarf, as expected from evolutionary models. For PSR J0034{0534 no objects were detected to a limiting magnitude of R=25.0, suggesting that the white dwarf in this system is cold. Using white dwarf cooling models, the limit on the magnitude of the PSR J0034{0534 companion suggests that at birth the pulsar in this system may have rotated with a period as short as 0.6 ms. These observations provide further evidence that the magnetic elds of millisecond pulsars do not decay on time scales shorter than 1 Gyr. Optical Studies of Millisecond Pulsar Companions

In observations of four binary millisecond pulsars with the Palomar 200-inch telescope , we have detected white dwarf companions to PSRs J1640+2224 and J2145?0750 and placed upper limits of m r = 24 and m r = 25 on companions to PSRs J0751+1807 and J2229+2643. The temperature inferred for the companion to PSR J1640+2224 is T = (3700 300) K. The luminosity inferred for a star at a distance of 1....

Letter to the Editor Observations of millisecond pulsars at 4.85 GHz

Recent observations at high radio frequencies using the Effelsberg 100-m Radio Telescope of the Max-PlanckInstitut für Radioastronomie have resulted in the detection of four millisecond pulsars at 4.85 GHz ; PSRs J1022+1001, J1713+0747, B1855+09 and J2145−0750. The typical flux density for these millisecond pulsars is around 1 mJy. Pulse shapes and flux densities of observedmillisecond pulsars ...

Polarization observations of nine southern millisecond pulsars

Mean pulse profiles and polarization properties are presented for nine southern pulsars. The observations were made using the Parkes radio telescope at frequencies near 1330 MHz; three of the nine pulsars were also observed at 660 MHz. A very high degree of circular polarization was observed in PSR J1603−7202. Complex position angle variations which are not well described by the rotating-vector...

VLT observations of the solitary millisecond pulsar PSR J 2124 − 3358 Roberto

About 100 millisecond (ms) pulsars have been identified in the Galaxy, and only ≈ 10% of them are solitary, i.e. without a binary companion. Nothing is known on the optical emission properties of millisecond pulsars. Observations of solitary millisecond pulsars are the only way to detect their faint optical radiation, otherwise buried by the brighter white dwarf companion. As in the case of sol...
